42 SPCCAA
masterpiece. Each group had one adult, one child and a service
user. The alumni’s children were very helpful in assisting the service
users to put on their painting smocks.
During the next hour, each group demonstrated creativity, team
work and dedication to excellence. There were always more
than one paint brush working on a painting while no arm was
tangled up in the process. All groups completed their artwork on
time. We left the canvas in front of a big fan for drying, and then
we started cleaning up the auditorium while the service users
enjoyed some snacks and beverages. Time passed quickly,
Peggy was seen at the centre stage again concluding the indoor
event with our alumna, Pandora Lau (1988), receiving, on behalf
of SPCCAA, a token of appreciation from SAHK.
When we thought the event was concluded, we moved outside
for group photo taking. It was the moment for our alumni’s
children to display their athletic side utilising the facility’s outdoor
exercise equipment. It took a moment to organise ourselves
for the group photo but it was a blessing when the sun shone
upon us late in the afternoon. Everyone had a wonderful time
on this Saturday afternoon. We all look forward to participating
in the next SPCCAA community service event.
SAHK, formerly named as “The Spastics Association
of Hong Kong”, provides comprehensive professional
rehabilitation services and facilities for persons with
neurological impairments such as cerebral palsy, physical
handicap, mental handicap, autism, developmental delay,
specific learning difficulties, stroke and Parkinson’s disease.
The Association serves all age groups and its services are
catered for their special needs at various stages of life.
The Association was founded as “The Hong Kong
Association for the Spastic Children” in 1963. In February
2008, the Association officially changed the name to
“SAHK”, the Chinese name “
香港耀能協會
”. The new
Chinese name carries the connotation of the service users
bringing, both inborn and learnt abilities, into full play.
The English name, SAHK, signifies the determination to
“Succeed and Advance”.
