COMMUNITY
SERVICE
SPCCAA 41
On Saturday, 29 November 2014, over 40 alumni, spouses
and children participated in a community service event at
the SAHK LOHAS Garden Service Centre
(香港耀能協
會盛康園)
in Ho Man Tin. LOHAS Garden is one of the
newest service centres of SAHK providing day training and
residential service for over 200 moderate to severe mentally
and physically disabled individuals. This service centre’s name
signifies its objective of delivering the “Lifestyle of Health and
Sustainability” where personal growth, community involvement
and social responsibility are emphasised.
SAHK has adopted a conductive education (“CE”) system in
achieving its objective. The uniqueness of CE in SAHK lies in
its teaching and learning towards social goals for cultivating
self-identity, self-discipline and self-determination. These are
crucial “personality factors” in developing potentials among all
children, especially those with special needs.
This year, SAHK is promoting the “Seven Tips of Happiness”
(快
樂七式)
, which include 1. Gratitude and Appreciation
(感謝
與讚美)
; 2. Healthy Living
(健康樂悠悠)
; 3. Seeking Work
and Leisure That Engages Your Skills
(敬業樂業
); 4. Employing
Constructive Language
(嘉言善意)
; 5. Act of Kindness
(為
善最樂)
; 6. Forgiveness
(常懷寬厚)
; 7. Investing Time and
Energy in Friends and Family
(天倫情話)
, derived from Positive
Psychology
(正向心理學)
. During this community service,
our alumni and families as well as the service users enjoyed a
very “Happy” afternoon as a result of the “Act of Kindness” and
expression of “Gratitude and Appreciation”.
The weather forecast was rainy for the event day but it did not
dampen our spirit. Many of us met up near the Wan Chai MTR
station to board the bus to the SAHK Ho Man Tin service centre.
The bus ride reminded me of SPCC school trips. It was God’s
blessing when the rain stopped as the journey began. We arrived
at the service centre at around 2 pm and were greeted by the
service users and SAHK staffs in an auditorium with tables, chairs,
canvases and painting tools all setup. After a short briefing from
Peggy Chau (1993) who represented both SPCCAA and SAHK,
we were paired up with service users and started our respective
ART JAM at
SAHK LOHAS Garden Service Centre
