The St Paul’s Co-educational College Alumni Choir (“the Alumni Choir”) was established in 1980 by past principal the late Dr B M Kotewall.
Apart from regular live performances at the School Summer Concert and annual Carol Service at the St John’s Cathedral, the Alumni Choir has participated in the CD recordings at the School Anniversaries.
In 1998, the Alumni Choir presented their first choral concert. In 2005, the Alumni Choir joined the St Paul’s Co-educational College Concert Choir and School Orchestra to perform Handel’s “Messiah” at the 90th School Anniversary. And in April 2010, made its overseas debut and performed together with Dolce Voce at St Dominic’s Church in Macau. The Alumni Choir also participates actively in community service and fundraising events.
In 2012, the Alumni Choir expanded its reach of alumni beyond choir singers to include string players and formed the String Ensemble. Since then, the group has expanded to include many more musicians and has become the SPCC Alumni Orchestra (“the Alumni Orchestra”) today. In June 2015, the Alumni Choir and the Alumni Orchestra, along with 7 other Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui schools (“HKSKH schools”), participated in the inaugural HKSKH Schools Alumni Choral Festival where over 400 singers and musicians performed on the same stage!
Making music has been a long-standing tradition of St. Paul’s Co-educational College. It is this very tradition that has brought our alumni back together to relive our fond memories of being part of the spirit that continues to be one of the many core values of SPCC.
